Our Mission

The primary mission of Opera Idaho is to fund and produce opera of the highest possible professional standard, in Boise and throughout the State of Idaho, and to foster wider acceptance, appreciation and enjoyment of opera and related art forms in young people and adults of all social and economic backgrounds, through diverse educational and outreach programs.

Opera Idaho's State Wide Presence

For several season Opera Idaho has been invited to participate in  McCall's Concert Series. On October 9, 2017, Opera Idaho will be presenting the Golden Age of Operetta, a concert dedicated to the lighter side of opera. Operettas are usually shorter than operas, are usually of a light and amusing character, and are often considered less "serious" than operas. However, they played a crucial role as the precursors to modern musical theatre.

This season Opera Idaho will present a semi-staged production of Puccini's Tosca as part of Sun Valley Opera's season. The Presbyterian Church of the Big Wood will once again serve as the stage for Puccini's masterpiece. This will be the second time Opera Idaho is performing as part of Sun Valley Opera's season. Last season we performed a semi-staged performance of La Traviata.

On November 6, 2016 Opera Idaho's closing performance of Mozart's The Magic Flute took place in Pocatello, in the beautiful Stephens Performing Arts Center on the campus of Idaho State University. The Mini-Magic Flute, which had previously toured 20 elementary schools and enjoyed by more than 8,200 students and educators in The Treasure Valley, was performed for elementary schools in Blackfoot and Pocatello, sharing Mozart's magic with more than 600 additional students and educators. Some of our singers also visited three high schools in Pocatello where they imparted a masterclass and shared some of their knowledge with aspiring high school singers. Our first visit to Pocatello was in 2013 with a performance of Mozart's The Marriage of Figaro and plans are in the works to visit Pocatello once again during our 2017-2018 season.
